Abstract

As a creative industry, batik SMEs are demanded to be creative-innovative in order to competing with other garment industries. Innovation and entrepreneurship are often seen as the key success in the face of any competition. Entrepreneurial companies are always marked by their commitment to innovation. Innovation cannot be separated from knowledge sharing. The willingness
and ability of employees to gather knowledge increase the company's superior innovation. This article aims to explain the factors that influence knowledge sharing within batik SMEs in Sragen. This study used qualitative strategies in order to reveal and explain the situation on the field. The results indicate that although the structure and management of batik SMEs are not commensurable with the well-known companies, but there are also factors that encourage the sharing of knowledge in batik SMEs, include culture and organizational climate, individual characteristics and management support. Incentive mechanisms, such as wages, as well as the Javanese culture have an important role in knowledge sharing.
